"We had words at half-time and at least the boys have come out and responded in the second half," he said after the game at The Valley.
"If they had done that from the start, we might have got something.
"At the end of the day we have just not got enough depth in our squad.
"If I had been able to pick everyone I had wanted to this afternoon, then we might well have won that game.
"The one thing about the injuries is that it has enabled me to see everybody in the squad.
"I have one or two areas where I need a different type of player.
"I am relatively happy with the squad. We finished 12th and with one or two extras and a bit of tinkering with the way we play, I am confident for next season."
