Saints were held to a frustrating goalless draw at Hartlepool on Tuesday night and are now 10 points behind leaders Brighton following their win over Plymouth.
But Saints remain in the play-off pack and still have realistic ambitions of catching south-coast rivals Bournemouth in second ahead of Saturday's visit of Swindon.
Adkins said: "Brighton went and won which is frustrating, but everyone else is same as.
"We have to keep grinding away and keep chipping away."
Saints are currently assessing the injury back-up goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski sustained in training last week.
