Davies has failed to break into the first team under Gordon Strachan and is well down the pecking order behind Beattie, Pahars, Ormerod and Tessem.
Now in the last year of his contract, Kevin now believes that he will not get a new deal."I need to prove a few people wrong, but I have got something to prove to myself more than anyone else," said Davies. "I had a good preseason at Southampton, but something's not right. I've been doing well and been overlooked. I'm in the last year of my contract-at Saints and it does not look like there is a future there, so it is a case of earning another contract and this is the next step. I have a one-month deal and we'll see where we go from there."
Davies returned to Saints after a poor spell at Blackburn who paid £7.25 million for his services. He hasn't shown anywhere near his initial form which brought him to Saints from Chesterfield in the first place.
I doubt whether Davies will be missed if he does go. Saints have plenty of options up front and I'm sure Davies wages are higher than the average at the club. As he's just in the reserves, the money could be better spent elsewhere.
