In his statement on Jan Poortvliet's departure Michael Wilde said that Saints were looking at bringing in a striker. Saints have of course struggled for goals all season. Then again we've struggled in defence and been inconsistent in midfield.
Thankfully our goalkeeping department has been firing on all cylinders, a testament to club's emphasis on youth, as the evergreen Kelvin Davis will tell you...
That statement looks to be coming to fruition with news that Saints are bringing in a Dutch international striker in his prime at age 27! OK, it was just the one appearance, but at 6'2 and with pace to match, he looks a decent option for Saints.
Unfortunately, his goal scoring record is decidedly average, but he has frequently played on the wing and could fit in well there for Saints, if we are not bringing him in as the target man we lack.
The move was said to be hinging on Steve McClaren's Twente bringing in scrabble favourite Nikita Rukavytsya, a move which is now coming to fruition. Denneboom did come off the bench for Twente for the final fifteen minutes earlier today, but with Rukavytsya joining is likely to find Saints a better option for first team football.
