"With three minutes to go all we had to do was defend that corner and it was game over," he said after the 2-2 draw at St Mary's.
"But suddenly it's an own goal, the atmosphere changed and you could see the tension come in.
"Apparently it happened at Arsenal when they conceded a goal in the last seconds and it shows a little lack of confidence.
"The fans were terrific and I have learned a lot from this match, including the fact that we need to get points in the bag if we are going to stay up.
"Our nerve cracked a bit and we have to get into position to win a game.
"The players gave everything and I cannot fault them there but we need a break.
"We are second from bottom and in a relegation position so there is no question of us losing our best players.
"Antti Niemi showed he is a top-class player and he is going to be very important for us in the coming months."
