High praise for Ormerod
Gordon Strachan had nothing but praise for striker Brett Ormerod. Despite having just returned from a lengthy injury lay off Brett placed himself firmly into Strachan's plans with his dedication and determination to play. Although not near full match fitness Brett came on ad id a good job for Saints on Saturday when he was called upon. It's nice to see that all of our strikers don't jet of to Ecuador when there's a problem. Strachan said: "For pure guts Brett has got to win Man of the Match. He had not trained for five and a half weeks and on Monday he needed an injection in his knee. But on Thursday he said he came to me and said: 'I know you are struggling for strikers so stick me in. I will be ready!' That was after one training session. I did not think he would be back for another couple of weeks but I did not have any hesitation throwing him on with so long left because he made me play him by his attitude. I would not have forced him to play but he made my mind up. Often players wait for the physio to say they are ready but he had the right mental determination to play which is a great thing in a footballer. It was the same when he was released by Blackburn. He made up his mind he would still be a footballer. The mind is a very powerful thing!"
