Saints chairman Rupert Lowe has confirmed that the club had failed in their attempts to lure the 22-year-old player to St Mary's.

“It is very regrettable because he would be a big success in English Football," he told the clubs official website.

“We made a very substantial offer but we are not prepared to go any higher. It is sad because he could have made a great impact.”
