The south-coast club had a disrupted start to the season both on and off the field, which resulted in the pre-season title favourites struggling to find their feet in the third tier.
However, since the appointment of manager Nigel Adkins they have surged up the table and talisman Lambert is looking to continue their title tilt.
"I'm very, very happy with the progress made this season," he told Press Association Sport.
"Obviously it wasn't the best of starts - I'm not going to go into too much detail about what happened - but obviously with the team we had it was very frustrating that we weren't doing as well as we could.
"It was nice that we finally got a manager in and since he has come in I think we have steadily picked it up and we're now showing everyone how good we are. I think we're only going to get better as well."
