Lyon have confirmed that they have signed Shakhtar Donetsk winger Tete on an initial deal until the end of the 2021/22 season.
Les Gones have made use of FIFA and UEFA's special transfer window to help foreign players leave Ukraine and Russia due to the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe.
90min reported earlier this week that Southampton were confident that they had sealed a deal to sign Tete from this summer onwards, but since the Premier League have blocked the use of this new transfer window, Lyon moved to sign the Brazilian immediately.
Tete has now been unveiled on an initial three-month deal, but Lyon have openly admitted that they want to secure his future beyond this season too.
Lyon general manager Vincent Ponsot said: "Tete has joined until the end of the season. We are also working on things over the medium term because we would like him to stay past the end of the season. He's a top-level recruit for us. I would like to thank his entourage.
"The will of the player was decisive. I think that Tete sensed that OL is a club with ambition and with values"
90min understands that Lyon used their current crop of Brazilian players to help convince Tete that a move to France was best for him, and he has admitted that the club's long history of success with his compatriots was an influence in signing for them.
"I am very happy to come to Lyon, who are a great European team. I am convinced that I can help the team. I have been well received, I am happy and I am ready to give it my all. OL has a great history with Brazilians, and this weighed in my decision," Tete said.
