With Chris Marsden looking towards the end of his career, the left hand side of midfield was becoming a problem area for the Saints.
Now that has been solved with the arrival of Neil McCann from Rangers.
On his day, McCann can be a real threat down the flank. Hopefully he'll relish the bigger challenge of the Premiership and become a lot more consistent.
Rupert Lowe told the official site: "Gordon Strachan has wanted him for a long time so I'm delighted to have got him.
"The terms fit our salary scale so we think he will be a good acquisition.
There is also a possibility that Javier De Pedro will sign a pre contract agreement with the Saints in December. This would be the ideal situation to give Saints as much quality and depth in that position as possible.
