34 year old Graeme Murty is expected to begin a trial with Saints at Staplewood as the heat bakes the south coast. Murty who has racked up over 300 league appearances for the Royals is available on a free transfer and Mark Wotte was certainly quick on his tails to give the veteran a trial with the club.
"Graeme is a very experienced defender and we will be taking a look at him over the next week or so," he said. "It is important that we do not lose any more time in our preparations for the new season and taking players on trial is an important part of that process."
Before a calf injury hampering his 08/09 season, Murty was on loan to struggling Charlton Athletic. The right back has been at Reading for 11 years and made 4 international appearances for Scotland between 2004-2007
