The Finland international stopper was thought to be ready for a return to first team duty in the Carling Cup tie against Watford tonight (Tuesday) but scans showed that he needed to undergo a minor cartilage operation on the knee injury he sustained in training on Friday which will sideline him for about three weeks.
"The scan showed a minor tear and after discussions with the surgeon and the player, it was decided to operate," Physio Jim Joyce told the clubs official website.
"Antti had keyhole surgery last night which was the earliest we could have got it done from our previous experience of this sort of operation, we would expect him back in training in around three weeks - all being well.
"That gives him an outside chance of making the Palace game but it depends how he recovers."
