Nilsson joins in time for new season

Saints have finally agreed a deal bringing Mikael to the club for around £500 000. This gives Sturrock a new option on the right of midfield. The deal will be completed next week.

Nilsson had already signed a pre contract agreement with the Saints which would have taken him to St Mary's on December 1st.

Rupert Lowe said: "It has been a tricky deal to seal but negotiations have been conducted with dignity and decorum and mutual respect."

Nilsson added: "I'm very excited about the move. As with many players from Sweden, it has always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League," Nilsson told the club's official website .

He added: "When you are a little boy growing up in Sweden the only league that people follow with any interest is the Premiership, so to play there is a great challenge.

"It is a much tougher competition than the Swedish league and I think my game will develop just my playing with and against players of this calibre."
