Southampton manager Alan Pardew felt his side's 1-1 friendly draw at Sutton United will stand them in good stead when the League One season gets under way. Last season's 37-goal top scorer Rickie Lambert was on target as Saints were held by the Isthmian Premier outfit. "It was a tough performance for us because the pitch was tough to play on, but that was one of the reasons I wanted to come here because it presented us with that sort of test," said Pardew. "Ultimately we are going to get games like this and we need to make sure our application is spot-on and unfortunately, especially in the first half, it wasn't quite right."
