Southampton winger Alex Chamberlain faces a race against time to play again this season, following the ankle injury he suffered last week. The 17-year-old has been on crutches and will be re-assessed in two weeks' time, after sustaining the problem in the recent 1-1 draw at Charlton.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Solent: "He saw a consultant this week, and we've shut Alex down totally.
"He's a young boy so we have to make sure we get it right."
He added: "We'll re-assess the injury in the next week or two."
There was better news on the groin injury suffered by Saints winger Adam Lallana, also at Charlton. He has recovered in time to face MK Dons in League One this Saturday.
Southampton face a daunting fixture schedule in the coming weeks, with eight games to play in the month of April.
