Even Gordon Strachan will admit that perhaps he stayed to long at Coventry. He had taken them as far as he could and the board were quite happy to prevent a real team being built by selling Strachan's players.
Regardless, it took a dismissal from Coventry to end his tenure there, and so Strachan, like all employees is entitled to the severance on his contract.
Coventry, however are trying to renege on the payment of bonuses owed to Strachan. Strachan claims he has been paid £300,000 of bonuses he was entitled to but was told the remaining £300,000 will not be paid.
The official statement read:"The claimant claims the sum of £300,000 against the defendant (Coventry City Football Club Ltd) for breach of contract."
While Coventry are trying to trim their costs, they are trying to paint Strachan as the bad guy because he's asking for payments that he's legally entitled to. Coventry were quite happy to offer Strachan the contract and it's down to their own mis management if they are finding it hard to honour it. It's that simple.
This follows on from Coventry City chairman Mike McGinnity saying that he's sack Strachan again, despite his success with Southampton. Actually, he pretty much agreed that a parting of the two parties was in the best interests of everybody, which was true.
