Since Gordon Strachan's arrival things have turned round considerably for the club and the players have responded well to his management.
If you look to the right of the homepage to On The Cross you'll see this years Player of the Season poll. Now here's why I think the eight on there deserve their place.
Wayne Bridge: Ever present again this season, Wayne just seems o get better and better. His season culminating with his first tow appearances for England and he has an excellent chance of making the World Cup squad.
Chris Marsden: Saints midfield dynamo. His game, although always good, has come on leaps and bounds. Tenacious, determined and scorer of a classic goal against Ipswich.
James Beattie: Arial power combined with lethal finishing, Saints most obvious threat has changed the mind of many fans this season as his all round game has come together.
Marians Pahars: Southampton's top scorer this term, the lightning Latvian continues to terrorise Premiership defences now that he's back up front where he belongs.
Paul Williams: Brought in as a temporary replacement to Dean Richards, Paul has made the central defensive position his own in a great first season for the club.
Claus Lundekvam: The Norwegian international who, considering Dean Richards poor Spurs form, was clearly the linchpin of the Saints defence. Another excellent season from Claus has given Saints a stingy defence.
Matthew Oakley: Perhaps the most unsung of all the options, Matty is the fulcrum of the Saints side, combining Defence and Attack. He has developed these skills perhaps to the detriment of his attacking ability, but the goal against Derby showed he still has an eye for goal.
Anders Svensson: Saints attacking Swedish international brings a bit of class to the Saints midfield. Excellent ball skills coupled with goalscoring vision make him an important part of the Saints side.
The poll will be kept going until 20th May so that gives you plenty of time to get your vote in.
