''We will do all we can to help Gordon bring in the players he feels will boost the squad.
''We have some very good players here at Southampton and we have a decent squad but we will add to it wherever we can."
''It is not surprising that we are being linked with various players. The club is going from strength to strength with the new stadium.''
"Kilbane is a good player but we have not made any kind of enquiry for him so there is no truth in any of those reports," said Rupert Lowe. With Fernandes having just joined, the left side of midfield may not be considered a priority for Saints.
Also on the "no" list were Graeme Lee, Mijatovic, Steve Harper, Stephen Clemence, Matt Holland and Fabian Wilnes.
Lowe did admit to having an interest in Johnny Ecker, but he has opted for Marseille.
As for the timing of the new faces at the club Rupert said:"We're working all the time to bring in new players and we're looking to improve the whole of the squad. Gordon is hoping to sign two or three players to do that. The problem at the moment is that people aren't around because of the World Cup but it should be easier at the end of the month."
Lowe rephrased all of this in an Echo interview saying: "We are aware of what we are doing in respect of signing players but some of the names I have heard are a mile away from the truth.
"The way it works is that we get together the names of the players we want, and then I go away and see what can be done.
"We are looking to strengthen the team but I don't think we need a wholesale change, just two or three players.
"With it being the World Cup a lot of people are away which can make life difficult but it should be easier after the World Cup but it is all in hand."
So with Rupert denying all of our old links, we need some replacements. As always, there's never a shortage.
Gary O'Connor - from Hibernian is a new target. O'Conner has had only one season at the Edinburgh club and I'm not sure how effective he'd be for us.
Michael Svensson is still being linked from Troyes. Svensson's agent, Kent Carlzon said, "A year ago Southampton saw the player before he went to Troyes. If you ask any Swedish player, his dream is to play in the best league in the world, and most of them feel that is the English Premiership."
Chinese defender Li Weifeng has been linked with a move to the Saints, following on form the supposed move of Le Tie to the South coast.
