Starting line-up
Richard Wright 8: Kept us in the game with some great saves, one in particular blocking from Kevin Phillips at point blank range. Could have done better with the goal, but saw the shot late. His distribution was good and he looked assured and in control of his make-shift backline. Without a doubt our man of the match, if it's possible to keep him in the summer we definitely should.
Extended player ratings: West Brom 1 Saints 1
Jermaine Wright 7: As I've said in previous reports he looks very assured in defence and uses all his experience to read the play and get in the correct position. He put in a brilliant through ball to assist the goal and didn't let Morrison get into the game.
Andrew Surman 7: Rewarded the managers faith we a solid performance at full-back. Read the game well and won his fair share of balls in the air. Slightly caught out for their goal but with the amount of pressure the home side put on the defence it always looked like they might nick a goal.
Chris Lucketti 7: Another towering performance from the experienced warhorse. He was always ready to put his body on the line blocking shots and winning his fair share in the air against a tough strong opponent Miller. He has been granted permission to play in the final game of the season against his current employers.
Chris Perry 7: Similar kind of performance to Lucketti, very gritty dogged and determined defending. Put in a very good block to divert Miller goal bound effort just wide.
Jhon Viafara 5: Has lost his way a bit recently and his performance is summed up by two moments. A moment of good fortune; his missed control gifted Jermaine Wright with the ball and he subsequently slipped through Lallana. However after seeing replays he could and maybe should have cleared the cross ball for the equaliser and even then blocked it!
Jason Euell 7: A new player under Pearson, his confidence is clearly growing. One move in particular during the first half when he played a neat one-two with John created a decent chance for Saganowski.
Youseff Safri (off for Dyer 63mins) 6: He was slightly off the boil, looking sloppy at times and was rightly taken off.
Inigo Idiakez 6: He did well to last the whole game but by the middle of the second half he began to tire. Continued to work hard though and he had little chance to show what he can from dead ball situations.
Stern John (off for Lallana 75mins) 6: A quiet evening from Stern whose only sight of goal was early on and snatched well wide.
Saganowski (off for Wright-Phillips 75mins) 6: No end of running from the Pole who is clearly desperate to find last season's form. Had a glorious chance but it didn't sit up nicely and he put it over. Had this been the end of last year though, I'm sure he would have buried it.
Subs:
Nathan Dyer (on for Safri 63mins) 6: Closed down and hustled well and would have had a delightful assist had Lallana buried his first chance. Never really got a chance to take on Paul Robinson with his pace.
Adam Lallana (on for John 75mins) 7: I as did many raised eyebrows with the double substitution upfront, but it paid dividends as latching onto Jermaine Wright's through ball he burst in between the home defence to place a precision shot in off the far post. Had an earlier effort but fired straight at Kiely, although this was on his weaker left foot.
Bradley Wright-Phillips (on for Saganowski 75mins) 6: Didn't have a lot of time to impress, but played an important roll in Lallana's first chance.
